St Tiernan’s Community School offer a wide range of subjects, academic and practical, in a nondenominational setting. The school’s focus is to foster the moral development of students through a school ethos based on respect for the dignity of each individual. St Tiernan’s are alert and sensitive to the needs of students and expectations of society in a constantly changing world and are innovative in modifying and designing programs to meet these needs and expectations. St Tiernan’s is located between Dundrum and Sandyford in South County Dublin. The school adjoins beautiful parkland and is served by numerous bus routes as well as the LUAS.
Junior Cycle: A broad range of subjects are available to students in St Tiernan’s Community School. All students take the following subjects English, RE, Pastoral Care, Maths, Computer Studies, History, Civic Social & Political Education, Geography In addition to the above students generally also choose four of the following subjects Art, Business Studies, French, Home Economics, Material Technology (Wood), Metalwork (Materials & Technology), Music, Science, Technical Graphics
Transition Year: Is designed to act as a bridge between junior and senior cycle in the school. In addition to that transition year focusses on giving each student an academic experience of a practical nature. Students can expect to be involved in various community and charity ventures throughout the year.

Sports and Extra-Curricular Activities
St Tiernan’s: have a long tradition of involvement in sports and extracurricular activities. Soccer Teams: compete in Football Association of Ireland School Leagues and Cups
Table Tennis: St Tiernan’s are sixtimes All Ireland School Champions. Students train every day under the supervision of several fullyqualified coaches. Students have represented Ireland at Junior Level and several boys and girls hold Leinster titles.
Hurling & Gaelic Football: Teams participate in GAA School Leagues. Athletics: Students compete in Irish Schools Championships. Athletics training takes place on a weekly basis with a fully qualified coach.
Basketball: Available to all students. Teams take part in CCSSCA competitions.
Olympic Handball: Boys and girls participate in IOHA (schools league competition). Past St Tiernan’s students have represented Ireland at international level.
Debating: Students are actively encouraged to take part in Debating and Public Speaking competitions at Junior/Senior level. The competitions are on an internal and external inter school basis.
School Musicals: St Tiernan’s have a very proud and wellestablished tradition of school musicals, concerts and shows. Past productions include, Oliver, West Side Story, Grease and Sound of Music
